To date, homeowners are presented with so many options to get rid of moles. And with the frustration that they give brought about by these mammals' constant digging and tunneling; homeowners are willing to try just about anything to get rid of them once and for all. Not only do they inflict damage on the soil; they could also kill plants and other vegetation.
Any method to get rid of moles starts with determining which of the many tunnels are active. Moles create a multitude of tunnels and only use a few of them. It is important that you go through this step so that you can install whatever gadget or contraption in a place where a mole will surely drop by. Otherwise, all your efforts will not create the desired effect which is the control and eradication of the moles.
If you stand by your beliefs that every life is precious and killing a mole is not an option for you, you can fashion a live trap with the use of a big jar or can and fit it into an active tunnel. Make sure that you carefully place the trap in a way that it creates the littlest disruption the tunnel as possible. Camouflage the jar or can so that it becomes unmistakably part of the tunnel. Check the trap at least once or twice a day. If it captures a mole, you can simply take and release this creature far from your place.
On the other hand, if think that trapping moles and then releasing them someplace else is too humane, you can use the variety of traps that inflict torture to the mole in every way imaginable. There are so many effective mole killing traps today that will give you a choice of whether you would want to chop, choke, and impale them.
Another method to get rid of moles that you can try is to flood the moles out. You just need to find an active tunnel, insert the hose, and wait for sufficient flooding. The challenge with this method is that you will have to exert some effort to catch the mammal as it tries to escape.
If you would rather do preventive measures than waste time and energy to stop these nasty critters, create a protective barrier instead. Fashion one out of mesh wire or concrete that is at least 2 feet in height and place it beneath the earth's surface. The problem with this is that you can only create a barrier for a small area at a time.
Of all the mole control and eradication ways, probably the most effective is with the use of traps. And among the 2 kinds of traps presented, killing traps and live traps, the best one would have to be killing traps. Live traps sometimes do not fool a mole since they can detect manipulation in a tunnel and ill therefore suspect the presence of a predator. With the big amount of damage and nuisance a mole can bring in your yard grounds and plants, it just might be justifiable to use such cruel way to get rid of moles.
